What happens if you don’t drink water after a massage? A massage can make you feel dehydrated. This causes your blood circulation, lymphatic system, and lymphatic to slow down. Particularly the lymphatic system isn’t capable of clearing out toxins from your body. This defeats the purpose of a detoxifying massage.
Do not shower immediately
Important Massage Tips many customers confess that they take a shower after a massage session is over, mostly to remove any oil. This is a huge mistake. The truth is that massage only heats up essential oils and takes another hour for them to absorb into the skin. Warm water can help to relax and increase circulation. Epsom salts (crystals hydrated magnesium sulphate), can be added to your bath to aid in the recovery process. It can naturally relax your muscles as it is absorbed through your skin. Epsom Salts can be found in most supermarkets and/or pharmacies. They can cost from $3.00 to $4.00 depending on how large they are. If you don’t have any injuries or swelling, icing (a cold pack wrapped in a towel/cloth), is recommended over heat. This will cause vasoconstriction (constriction in blood vessels), which can help reduce swelling.
Do not shower with hot water
After a relaxing massage, it’s tempting to take a hot, steamy bath. Another bad idea. Hot water can only worsen muscle injuries. Cold water is best for pain relief.
After a massage, don’t eat a heavy meal.
Massages can make you hungry. The increased blood flow stimulates your body’s ability to perform at high levels, including your digestive system. However, heavy meals will make you feel tired, bloated and lethargic instead of being energized.
Avoid Going Outside, or Doing Anything Strenuous
A relaxing hour-long massage can help you relax your mind and body. It is better to allow the massage to continue in this state than to ‘wake them up’. You can also injure your muscles by engaging in strenuous activities, such as gymming.
Pay close attention to how your body reacts when you massage.
You may feel sore from a massage, especially if it was a deep tissue or remedial massage. Sometimes, post-massage soreness may still be there the next day. If you don’t get regular massages or exercise often, this can lead to more soreness.
